The KC schools superintendent says that many of the diplomas they issue aren’t worth the paper they’re printed on.
In past years they have attacked the problem by throwing tons of money at physical facilities. Somehow, that didn’t work. Duh. Their solution is to close schools and fire teachers. I would suggest that they fire so-called teachers and hire real teachers, but that’s probably too radical for most folks.
The head of the Detroit school board apparently can’t read or write at the 4th grade level. His degree from Wayne State was held up for 10 years, until they finally lowered the standard. Detroit schools are miserable failures. Duh.
Back in 2005 a middle-school teacher who could not pass his certification exam hired a formerly homeless man with a master’s degree to take the test for him, so he could retain his $59,000-per-year job. How many actions like this didn’t get caught?
Now, I’m just an iggerent bubba, but I suspect that if we want to improve education, we need to hire educators who know more than their students.
